CHROMA composition workshop

John conducts a workshop of student compositions with visiting professional ensemble, CHROMA.

Ensemble ISIS
18th February 2013, Denis Arnold Hall, Faculty of Music, 1.00pm
A programme of works by postgraduate composers at the University of Oxford, to include Dan Jeffries She was a German Doctor called Julia, Chris Garrard Night or nothing, Luke Lewis  …and all watched over by machines of loving grace, Sam Fernando Half Moon and Utterance, and Eugene Birman Red Dessert.

2nd March 2013, CMS: Semi-final, with the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra
20th April 2013, Sheldonian Theatre: Final, Oxford Philomusica

Oxford Philomusica Composition Workshop
7th March 2013, Sheldonian Theatre, 10am-12pm
John will conduct the Oxford Philomusica in a workshop of compositions by students from Oxford University.

Following the Michaelmas term seminar and workshop, John prepares advanced student conductors on Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition (orch. Ravel).

Robert Saxton Birthday Concert
Ensemble ISIS, with Simon Desbruslais (Trumpet)
11th November 2013, Holywell Music Room, 8.oopm
A celebratory concert in the presence of the composer. Programme to include Psalm – A song of Ascents (1992), Shakespeare Scenes for Solo Trumpet and String Orchestra (2013), and a new work John and past/present Oxford composers that have worked with Robert, built upon his Little Prelude (2003), written for Ensemble ISIS.
