gergiev workshop 1On 1st April 2013, 2pm, John was mentored by maestro Valery Gergiev in a workshop run by the Oxford Philomusica.  John conducted Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings and benefitted from Gergiev’s kind words and guidance.  The workshop preceded a performance by the Oxford Philomusica, with Gergiev, of Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony and Strauss’ Metamorphosen.

The Oxford Philomusica is orchestra in residence at the University of Oxford, and is ‘Oxford’s Professional Symphony Orchestra.’  John’s selection for this workshop continues his connection with the orchestra. In 2013 he has conducted the OP in a composition workshop for the University (7th March), the final of the Oxfordshire Concerto Competition (20th April), and a Britten tribute concert (17th May) – for full details please see the events pages.
