At St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford

The Oxford Conducting Institute, directed by Dr John Traill (Professional conductor, Director and Lecturer of Music at St Anne’s College), provide a series of workshops and short courses for conductors. Events range in focus, from professional training, work in education, and with non-professional orchestras, to outreach, enterprise, and career development.

 

All workshops are open to the public (free of charge). Courses and seminars require prior enrolment.

*1-Day Course*: ‘Conducting Youth Ensembles and Choirs’, Friday 31st October 2014, 10.00-5.00

Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre, St. Anne’s College, 56 Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6HS

Description: A 1-day course covering conducting technique, rehearsal strategy, and interpretation.  The day will involve lectures, seminars, workshop observation, ideas forums, and an opportunity to connect with contemporaries.  This is particularly suitable for conductors in primary and secondary sectors. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Enrolment: £99.

Tea and Coffee provided. Lunch independent.

OCMS Conducting Workshop, Saturday 31st January 2015, 11.00-12.45

Repertoire: Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade, Holst Jupiter (from The Planets)

Conductors: Members of the Oxfordshire County Music Service and University of Oxford.

*1-Day Course*: ‘Conductors Working in Education’, Saturday 21st February 2015, 10.00-5.00pm

Sheldonian Theatre and Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre, St. Anne’s College, 56 Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6HS

Description: Come and watch John Traill conduct the Oxford Philomusica in a 2hr workshop of compositions by students at the University Oxford (this event is free to all), followed by a 3hr afternoon course for conductors.  Attendance at the morning session is optional, and not part of the enrolment fee.  The afternoon session will comprise interactive lectures on technique and interpretation, seminars on rehearsal strategy, and an opportunity to connect with contemporaries.  This is particularly suitable for conductors in primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
